Do you think you could ride a bike from New York to California? It makes me tired just thinking about it…plus, I don’t even have a bike. But I think we can agree that most people would say a ride of that nature is pretty impossible.
Marc Kantor of Patent Pending would say otherwise. In 2007, Marc got on his bike and rode from Levittown, Long Island to San Diego, California to raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association.
Patent Pending, a Long Island punk-rock band that formed in 2001, put out a quirky news update announcing Marc’s trip. Get a load of the map of Marc’s bike route.
In the end, Marc had run-ins with wolves, a partnership with Subway Sandwiches, a Native American sweating-ceremony, and hallucinations but the campaign was a huge success.
If you’d like to donate, Marc urges you to donate directly to the American Heart Association, since the Marc Across America website is no longer on the web. If you’re down for some nostalgia though, you can find Marc Across America on myspace.
Marc did say that he would do the ride again if he had people to ride with. And with the way social media is today, he feels like he could raise a lot more money for the American Heart Association.
