In 2002, Jack Johnson and Emmett Malloy founded Brushfire Records as a way to put out music for the surf movies they were creating at the time.

Brushfire Records ended up becoming one of the most environmentally friendly record labels. Johnson and Malloy have their own solar powered studio in Los Angeles now.

The duo also support the use of biodiesel buses and green merch. In their continuing effort to keep doing good, they have a table for the Ohana Charitable Fund at all their shows. They promise to match any donation up to $2500.
